Nuestro propósito es ayudar a transformar las sociedades en sistemas abiertos, inclusivos y democráticos donde cada voz cuenta, los gobiernos actúan con transparencia y juntos construimos un futuro común.
En los próximos años, nuestro objetivo es permitir a miliones de ciudadanos en todo el mundo participar en el toma de decisiones publicas de manera regular, transparente y vinculante en todos los niveles políticos a través del CONSUL DEMOCRACY. Hacemos la participación democrática digital fácil, accesible y asequible, y apoyamos a los gobiernos transparentes ofreciendo tecnologías de código abierto.

La comunidad
La CONSUL DEMOCRACY community consists of platform users, developers, participation experts and others from government, civil society and the commercial sector. Roughly 500 public and civil society organizations use or have used the platform since its inception in 2015, implementing one or several of its cinco funciones principales o personalizar aún más el software, permitidos bajo Affero GPL version 3. licencia.

La fundación
La CONSUL DEMOCRACY Foundation is at the heart of the international community and of the entire software project. The Foundation was founded in 2019 in the Netherlands and has two main objectives: 1) to develop and maintain the CONSUL DEMOCRACY open source software, and 2) to strengthen and assist the global community of users, developers and partners.
The Foundation consists of a small operational team consisting of a Director, a Network Coordinator and a Tech Coordinator, and a three-person board. It has its official seat in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Como empezó todo
La CONSUL DEMOCRACY fue desarrollado por el Ayuntamiento de Madrid en 2015. Estuvo directamente influenciado por las protestas callejeras de Los Indignados y Democracia Real ¡Ya! en España en mayo de 2011. De estos movimientos surgieron nuevas plataformas ciudadanas locales de abajo arriba, incluida una en Madrid llamada Ahora Madrid, que posteriormente ganó las elecciones locales de ese año.
De 2015 a 2019, se promulgaron varias políticas progresistas y democráticas, una de las cuales fue el desarrollo de una herramienta de participación digital denominada inicialmente CONSUL. La idea subyacente era empoderar a los ciudadanos e incluirlos directamente en los procesos de toma de decisiones locales. La ciudad de Madrid sigue utilizando su plataforma Decide Madrid a día de hoy.
